Lyme Regis, 1957.

Lyme Regis is in England. A coastal town in West Dorset. I read that Jane Austen holidayed there and gave it a mention in her novel Persuasion.

Coming from Australia I must say it looks a bit grim. In a nice way though. Just not in a swimming way.

So obviously this is the golden gate bridge. A photo taken by Papa in 1957 when they travelled to America. The cars look pretty cool. And its very convenient how they were both a nice blue.

I made this tile using one of papa's slides as the background. It looked like an old western bar in some deserted town. So it needed an heroic cowboy and a horse and of course every western needs a girl. And every girl needs a brolly.

A New Day, A New Blog

Good lord, I'm a blog whore. I seem to move from one blog host to the next. So lets try blogger.

So whats this blog going to be about. Hmmm. Well it all started about a year ago when I was visiting my mother. She was having a scrummage about in the garage and found this box of slides that belonged to my grandfather. Who will from now on be know as Papa. It was full of photos that he took while he was on a world trip with my Nan in 1957. There were a few more from another trip he took in 1964.

Anyway, she said to me

I found these slides and I was going to throw them away - do you want them?

So of course I took them because it seemed a bit reckless to just toss them away, but believe me I do understand the whole clearing clutter concept.

So I took them home, started scanning them on to the computer and there were some real treasures there. So I'm sharing them with everyone, because they're a part of history. And pretty cool as well.

So then I decided well I should do something with them now. So I started decorating ceramic tiles with them and blow me down if people didn't want to buy them.

So feel free if you get the urge. Just go wild. Buy a couple. I'm selling them through the australian handmade site madeit. And I'm sure I can put a link to it somewhere on the page as soon as I post this.

And the reason they're called the travelling tiles is because they love to travel - anywhere in the world. They want to get all over the place. Thats one reason, the other one is because a lot of them are made using photos my Papa took when he was travelling.

Things like this vintage photo of the Luna Park Entrance. Which is a little creepy yet also quite charming, in a halloween mardi gras kind of way.

Then I took it and turned it into a quirky little wall hanging.
